How do you tell the difference between a gearbox sensor fault and a real mechanical issue?
I am trying to educate myself a bit because I keep getting conflicting answers from different shops about my 911's gearbox behavior. Sometimes it holds gears longer than normal and the shifts feel slightly harsher, but no warning lights at all. One shop said it is likely a sensor issue and cheap to fix, another said it could be the start of something mechanical and would need the box out to inspect. The price gap between those two scenarios is enormous so I want to understand how a proper diagnosis actually works. Do they read live data while driving? Do they check adaptations?
